Everything in the game fears this escort because it can expertly kill -anything- in the game. Take these in a squad of 4 MINIMUM and you will cause suffering everywhere you go, especially to Eldar players. It's 2 turrets give the squad excellent ordnance defense. A phenomenal battery escort, quick as lightning and darned lethal. You now have the thing that makes Eldar players curse your existence. There is no reason to NOT take hunters! One important suggestion from me: Do not take them in anything less than a team of 4 or you will find yourself not dealing the damage necessary for victory (I take teams of 6). While it's weapons battery is only 1, it has the benefit of being FLR, which allows you to inconvenience eldar players thanks to your improved speed. A beautiful and lethal torpedo boat that I love, you love, your mother loves and your father is dang proud of. Increase it by 10 points and you have the Cobra. Take a cobra, give it 5+ armour and add 5 cm to the movement speed. The fleet is situated as a rapid and maneuverable assault force designed to zip past incoming ships to perform exterminatus or planetary assault missions while tying other ships up in lethal boarding actions. You also have access to Venerable Battle Barges and the battle barge itself as an option for something a little more resilient in your fleet, though they are an expensive and slow choice. The Strike Cruiser itself has four variants and can swap it's Thunderhawks out for Thunderhawk Annihilators (which are resilient fighters and Bombers). This makes them a terrible threat to Eldar vessels, since every one of the ships has a weapons battery stapled to the hull. The Nova, Hunter and Gladius escorts outperform their Imperial Navy counterparts in armour, speed and firing arc while not increasing the points cost by much. That is a bit of a shock to their players expecting the marines to have the biggest and best ships, but it's simply not true. The Space marine fleet is an Escort centric, Cruiser secondary fleet. If you use Space Marines like Imperial Navy, you will lose every time and you will begin to wonder if you made a mistake with the fleet or even the hobby. EXPECT CASUALTIES! I cannot express this enough. Dark Angels like the Hunter Destroyer for example.Ĥ. If you do your reading, it turns out that What ships you choose determines what chapter you are. Chapters at this level are cosmetic choices only.Unless you are Gray Knights. A squad of Ultramarines does the same amount of damage as a squad of Salamanders when you zoom out far enough. Their fast, thunderhawk carrying ships and high firepower escorts make them perfectly suited for the missions in the raid category.ģ. Space Marines are designed for raid missions first, battles second. It's why they work so well with Imperial Navy due to the fleets natural planetary assault weakness.Ģ. Their ships are fast and designed to get onto a planet, land Thunderhawks, dump troops and get the heck out of dodge. Space Marines are made for Planetary Assault and Exterminatus Missions. So many people want to throw them out as a pure space marine list not realising that they are designed to fight alongside the imperial navy, using the heavier weapons of their allies to cover for their approaches on enemy formations. So what does this mean for our boys in power armour? To be crass, it means they aren't designed to fight alone. In effect, the biggest thing preventing another Horus Heresy is the presence of the Imperial Navy (who are the real poster boys of the BFG setting). As a result, they were relegated to glorified troop transports instead of full sized warships. As a result of the abject ruination that the Space Marines brought upon the Empire, a balance of powers was forced upon the Adeptus Astartes to prevent such a thing from happening again. The other thing they forget is that the Horus Heresy had consequences. They are not designed to win a war, and they are not designed to survive attrition warfare outside of the 30k setting when they were at legion strength. As a result, Space Marine fans forget that the moment you zoom out of 40k scale, Space Marines function as a surgical strike force designed to put an intense amount of damage at a critical spot in a much larger battle. Players of Epic Armageddon have this same problem with new players too, expecting Space Marines to be the centre of attention outside of 40k. Get that out of your system immediately before you even consider buying a single strike cruiser. The first thing that really must be established is that the Adeptus Astartes are not the poster boys of the BFG setting. Compared to the combat juggernauts that the Imperial Navy can field, a strike cruiser seems astoundingly weak. In all honesty, I can see why newer players will believe this.
